Separation

I used to believe that losing you would kill me
Now I see that trying to keep you
was the true death sentence

Secret messages disappearing like whispers
Empty words clattering against
contradictory movements
Anger burns like a hot stove
I can’t stop touching

A house full of ghosts
A heart full of holes

I used to believe it would kill me
But I didn’t think
the knife would be in my back.
